When Is it Absolutely Time to Visit a Dentist?

You’re probably aware that it’s recommended that everyone visit the dentist twice a year, but at least once annually. Not everyone visits the dentist’s office as often as they should. And for those who do, sometimes there are issues that develop between scheduled visits. So when should you clear your schedule and get to a dentist’s office as soon as possible? Find out what dental problems should be treated with restorative care as soon as possible.

Your Gums Are Receding

As gum disease advanced to its advanced stages, periodontitis, it starts to do irreversible damage to the gums and teeth. You may not notice it at first, but them one day you may look at your teeth and discover that they appear to be getting longer – this is gum recession.

The sooner you seek treatment for gum recession and periodontitis, the more treatment options your dentist will be able to consider for you.

Your Teeth Feel Loose or Your Bite has Shifted

Other signs of periodontitis include loose teeth and a bite that feels like it has shifted – your top and bottom teeth seem to have changed in how they come together. These are signs that your teeth are on their way out, but it’s not necessarily a death sentence for your teeth as long as you get to a periodontist as soon as possible.

You Have Unrelenting Pain

You feel a sort of throbbing pain emanating from one tooth or one area of your mouth. This is a sign that a tooth or teeth have been compromised, leaving the nerves inside exposed to hot or cold temperatures. A root canal may be necessary to clean out the decay inside of the tooth or teeth and to protect the nerves inside.

Your Gums Are Tender and Frequently Bleed

Tenderness and bleeding can be signs of early gum disease. But it the tenderness and bleeding become regular, it’s an indicator that your gum disease has advanced to periodontitis.
